Clinical Services

Health Care in San Diego & Beyond

Our medical staff see patients in several clinics that provide diagnostic services, genetic and teratogen counseling, and long-term follow-up of children with birth defects in San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico. Inpatient consults are conducted at the UCSD Medical Center and Scripps Mercy Hospital. Outpatient consults and follow-up take place at Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and at the Hospital del Infantil de las Californias in Tijuana.

Our MotherToBaby California program provides counseling for pregnant and breastfeeding women and health care providers regarding the prenatal effects of medications, drugs, chemicals, and other environmental agents to which woman may have been exposed. The program is located at UCSD, with satellite offices at Los Angeles Children’s Hospital. MotherToBaby CA is an affiliate of the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists (OTIS).

The Institute for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Discovery (IFASDD) provides community outreach and education to clinicians and other health care specialists on the devastating effects of prenatal alcohol exposure, and also supports families with loved ones who are affected by a Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). In addition, through IFASDD we screen children in high-risk populations for FASD, and refer them as needed for a diagnostic evaluation. The Institute works alongside government, educational, and criminal justice agencies to facilitate improved recognition and access to services, and provides a platform for conducting innovative research on FASD that will lead to improved care and treatment.
